Feel grateful!

“When I awaken in the morning, the first thing I do before I even open my eyes is to thank my bed for a good night’s sleep. I am grateful for the warmth and comfort it has given me. From that beginning, it is easy to think of many, many more things that I am grateful for. By the time I have gotten out of bed, I have probably expressed gratitude for 80 or 100 different people, places, things, and experiences in my life. This is a great way to start the day.

In the evening, just before sleep, I go through the day, blessing and being grateful for each experience. I also forgive myself if I feel that I made a mistake or said something inappropriate or made a decision that was not the best.”

– Louise L. Hay

I came across this passage from the book “Gratitude, A Way Of Life” by Louise Hay and her friends.

I really liked this simple exercise and decided to follow the same. I have the habit of checking my phone the first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. I decided to change this habit.

Being grateful makes us see all the blessings in our every day lives. It makes us happy and be thankful for everything that we already have. It brings more of the things, that we feel happy about, into our lives.

Forgiving ourselves helps us let go our past mistakes and move into the future with all the lessons learnt. It helps us respect ourselves inspite of the mistakes. It is very easy to blame ourselves and let others blame us for our mistakes. But mistakes only make us human and we need to learn to forgive ourselves for the same.

Forgiving ourselves is the most important self-care habit that we should practice. Likewise, being grateful helps us appreciate our lives even more. They help us keep our mental health positive.  Whatever challenges life throws at us, these two powerful tools will help us overcome them.

I have decided to practice them  daily and maintain positive energy around me and inside me.

What is the positive practice that you have started in this new year?

Love,

Rashmi
